Pacemaker Medical ID
Pacemaker Medical Alert ID Bracelets, Necklaces & Accessories
Artificial pacemaker implantation is one of the most common types of heart surgery carried out in the UK, with many thousands of pacemakers fitted each year. The pacemaker sends electrical pulses to the heart to keep it beating regularly and not too slowly. An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is a device similar to a pacemaker. If an ICD notices a dangerous heart rhythm it can deliver one or more of the following treatments: pacing, cardioversion or defibrillation.
In the event of an emergency, it is essential to notify paramedics, A&E staff and other first responders and medical professionals that you have a pacemaker or IDC fitted to prevent any treatment that could potentially exacerbate your medical condition. In particular, there are strict requirements about the MRI scanning of patients who have a pacemaker or ICD fitted to ensure that the device is not damaged by the magnetic waves. Medical professionals will need to know the make or manufacturer and model of pacemaker or ICD that you have fitted and it can be a good idea to include any identity number and the date fitted.
This website has lots of useful information about MRI scans for patients with pacemakers or ICDs fitted: https://mrimypacemaker.com/for-patients/faq/
Many people who have a pacemaker fitted are also prescribed blood thinners such as warfarin, for example if they suffer from atrial fibrillation. If you are taking blood thinners, this should be the first alert engraved on your pacemaker medical ID as it will alert first responders to look for possible signs of internal bleeding.
When selecting your pacemaker medical ID, it’s important to choose options that do not include magnetic bracelets with magnets in the links or closures, such as magnetic copper bracelets, as these are not recommended for wear with a pacemaker or ICD.
There are lots of medical IDs to choose from so you can select the style that best suits you and your lifestyle, with choices from casual to more stylish designs. To help you choose, we’ve curated a pacemaker and ICD range where you'll find ID cards, wristbands, necklaces and medical alert bracelets as well as handy medicine bags. Our bracelets and necklaces feature the well-known medical alert symbol and can be engraved with your details which we can personalise with your details.
Our pacemaker and ICD range includes medical ids that allow you to engrave up to 5 lines of text so you can cover multiple conditions, or you could choose to list additional information on a medical ID card.
All prices include free engraving and free UK mainland delivery.
What Should You Put on a Pacemaker Medical ID?
It is always best to consult with your doctor or specialist to decide what to engrave on your pacemaker or ICD medical ID. In the event that this is not possible, we have taken advice from the lovely doctors at Concierge Medical (the multi award-winning private GP service for the Cotswolds and surrounding areas) and recommend the following:
As a minimum, you should put the following on your medical ID:
- Specific name of any anticoagulant medication, e.g. warfarin
- Make and model of pacemaker or ICD.
- Serial number of the pacemaker or ICD.
- Primary medical condition, e.g. atrial fibrillation.
- Your primary ICE (in case of emergency) number.
You may also want to include the following:
- Your name.
- Any other severe medical conditions (including allergies).
- Any other medications you may be on.
- “See medical card” (if you choose to carry a medical ID card in your phone case or wallet).
General advice on engraving:
- Information should relate to conditions not otherwise discoverable by examination of an unconscious or incapacitated patient.
- Important medications should be listed.
- Information should be relevant to life-saving or emergency treatment.
- Avoid using general terms, e.g. “Allergies: bee stings, nuts” is much more useful than just “Allergies”.
Pacemaker Wristbands
Soft, silicone wristbands are a popular choice for a pacemaker or ICB medical ID as they’re comfortable and convenient to wear throughout the day and evening, indoors and out. We have many different colours you can choose from with inside engraving or outside engraving and we also offer smaller wristbands for children. Our Velcro and Silicone ranges are great if you like to stay active.
Pacemaker Bracelets
We also have a huge range of pacemaker medical bracelets to choose from: from everyday wear to special occasions. Our pure links titanium bracelet is an elegant choice. Our modern medical bracelets with clasp are very popular with six colours to choose from and plenty of room for your engraving.
As well as our bracelets, we also offer watch style SOS Talismans that allow the wearer to write their details onto an information strip and store inside the SOS capsule, great for individuals whose details or medications might change frequently.
Pacemaker Necklaces
If you would prefer to wear a necklace, our pacemaker or ICB dog tags offer a subtle and stylish way to display important data. Choose from brushed steel or coloured designs created for men and women.
Our SOS Talisman and Infomedic necklaces are also a convenient way of keeping details of your condition with you at all times. Keep your data safely tucked away inside the unique pendant.
Kids
It’s not always easy to persuade little ones to wear medical ids so we have a great range of medical IDs for children: from colourful silicone bands to fabric wristbands and necklaces. Many of our engravable medical ID bracelets are also available in a variety of sizes from 5 inches (12.7cm) to suit even young children.
Medicine bags and ID Cards
If you regularly carry medication, our medicine bags and carry cases are perfect for keeping your medication safe. They're also great for traveling and when you go on holiday.
As well as your pacemaker or ICD alert jewellery, it's also a good idea to have a medical ID card for your wallet or phone. This allows you to carry more detailed information with you, such as your address and NHS number. If you purchase one of our ID cards alongside a necklace or bracelet, we normally advise having 'see medical card' engraved on your chosen piece of jewellery.
