Asthma Medical ID
Do You Need A Bracelet or Medical ID For Asthma?
Asthma is a common condition and may be allergy induced or have other triggers. The severity of asthma attacks differs depending on the type and individual case. For asthma sufferers prone to or at risk of severe asthma attacks, it’s recommended that you wear some form of medical identification to speak for you when you can’t.
An asthma medical ID in the form of a medical alert bracelet, necklace, or wristband can save your life in an emergency, as you could be unable to communicate or be unresponsive - it allows the first-responders and emergency services to diagnose your medical condition rapidly and accurately.
In our asthma range you'll find handy medicine bags, ID cards, wristbands, necklaces and bracelets which we can personalise with your details. All prices include free engraving and free UK mainland delivery.
What Should You Put On An Asthma Medical ID?
It is always best to consult with your doctor or specialist to decide what to engrave on your asthma medical ID. In the event that this is not possible, we have taken advice from the lovely doctors at Concierge Medical (the multi award-winning private GP service for the Cotswolds and surrounding areas) and recommend the following:
- As a minimum, you should put the following on your asthma medical ID:
- Your asthma diagnosis.
- Any asthma medications you use, such as an inhaler.
- Your primary ICE (in case of emergency) number.
- You may also want to include the following:
- Your name.
- Any other severe medical conditions (including allergies).
- Any other medications you may be on.
- “See medical card” (if you choose to carry a medical ID card in your phone case or wallet).
If you choose a medical id bracelet that can be engraved on both the front and the back, we recommend that you engrave your medical information on the front and your personal information (name and ICE) on the back.
General advice on engraving:
- information should relate to conditions not otherwise discoverable by examination of an unconscious or incapacitated patient.
- Important medications should be listed.
- Information should be relevant to life-saving or emergency treatment.
- Avoid using general terms, e.g. “Allergies: bee stings, nuts” is much more useful than just “Allergies”.
It's important that those at risk of a severe asthma attack wear, or keep with them at all times, some form of medical identification in case of an emergency.
A wristband can be a handy way of doing this as they’re comfortable and convenient to wear throughout the day and evening, indoors and out.
Our beaded Pandora style bracelets feature a beautiful charm where your medical details can be discreetly displayed. These designs are perfect to wear at a party or simply if you like your medical ID to have a touch of style.
As well as a vast range of bracelets, we also have watch style SOS Talismans available that allow the wearer to write their details onto an information strip and store inside the SOS capsule, great for individuals whose details or medications might change frequently.
As well as a bracelet or wristband, many asthma sufferers wear a necklace as an alternative or additional way of carrying vital medical information. Our range of engravable dog tags are a great option if you require multiple lines of personalisation as they can fit a minimum of 5 lines of engraving.
Asthma Medical ID For Kids
It’s not always easy to persuade little ones to wear medical ids so we have a great range of asthma medical ids for kids: from colourful silicone bands to fabric wristbands and necklaces. Many of our engravable medical id bracelets are available in a variety of sizes from 5 inches (12.7cm) to suit even young children.
Asthma Medicine bags and ID Cards
If you carry inhalers, our inhaler carry cases are perfect for keeping your medication safe. They're also great for traveling and when you go on holiday.
As well as your asthma alert jewellery, it's also a good idea to have a medical ID card for your wallet or phone. This allows you to carry more detailed information with you, such as your address and NHS number. If you purchase one of our ID cards alongside a necklace or bracelet, we normally advise having 'see medical card' engraved on your chosen piece of jewellery.
