Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome

Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS) is a rare genetic condition which affects the automatic control of breathing. It is “congenital” as babies mainly are born with this condition and “central” because it involves the central nervous system. CCHS may not be immediately obvious in an emergency. It is crucial to alert emergency responders to the condition and any other medical needs to enable rapid and appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Necklaces and bracelets are worn at pulse points where medical responders would check vitals.

Medical ID jewellery gives the wearer independence as the ID communicates, especially in an emergency, when the wearer is unable to speak for themself. Our bracelets and necklaces feature the well-known medical alert symbol and can be engraved with the wearer’s details. The personalised engraving can also warn of associated risks, complications, and any special care that the wearer needs. There are lots of medical IDs to choose from so you can select the style that best suits you and your lifestyle, from casual to more stylish designs. To help you choose, we’ve curated a CCHS range of medical IDs where you'll find ID cards, wristbands, necklaces, medical alert bracelets and handy medicine bags. Our CCHS range includes medical IDs that allow you to engrave up to 5 lines of text so you can cover all your conditions, or you could choose to list additional information on a medical ID card. All prices include free engraving and free UK mainland delivery.

What Should You Put on a CCHS Medical ID?

It is always best to consult with your doctor or specialist to decide what to engrave on your CCHS medical ID. If this is not possible, we have taken advice from the lovely people at CCHS UK (a registered charity providing support for people affected by CCHS throughout the UK) and recommend the following:
As a minimum, you should put the following on your CCHS medical ID:

  • Your CCHS diagnosis, e.g. Central Congenital Hypoventilation Syndrome, Does not breathe
  • when asleep or unconscious
  • Needs ventilation OR mask ventilation OR diaphragm pacer
  • Your primary ICE (in case of emergency) number
  • You may also want to include the following:
  • Your name
  • Any other severe medical conditions (including allergies)
  • Any medications you may be on
  • “See medical card” (if you choose to carry a medical ID card in your phone case or wallet).

If you choose a medical ID bracelet that can be engraved on both the front and the back, we recommend that you engrave your medical information on the front and your personal information (name and ICE) on the back.

General advice on engraving:

  • Information should relate to conditions not otherwise discoverable by examination of an
  • unconscious or incapacitated patient
  • Important medications should be listed
  • Information should be relevant to life-saving or emergency treatment
  • Avoid using general terms, e.g. “Allergies: bee stings, nuts” is much more useful than just
  • “Allergies”

CCHS Wristbands

Soft, silicone wristbands are a popular as they’re comfortable and convenient to wear throughout the day and evening, indoors and out. We have many different colours you can choose from with inside engraving or outside engraving and we also offer smaller wristbands for children. Our Velcro and Silicone ranges are great if you like to stay active.

We have a huge range of bracelets to choose from: from everyday wear to special occasions. Our pure links titanium bracelet is an elegant choice. Our modern medical bracelets with clasp are very popular with six colours to choose from and plenty of room for your engraving. As well as our bracelets, we also offer watch style SOS Talismans that allow the wearer to write their details onto an information strip and store inside the SOS capsule, great for individuals whose details or medications might change frequently.

CCHS Syndrome Necklaces

If you would prefer to wear a necklace, our EDS dog tags offer a subtle and stylish way to display important data. Choose from brushed steel or coloured designs created for men and women.
Our SOS Talisman and Infomedic necklaces are also a convenient way of keeping details of your condition with you at all times. Keep your data safely tucked away inside the unique pendant.

Kids and Young Adults

It’s not always easy to persuade little ones to wear medical IDs so we have a great range of medical IDs for children: from colourful silicone bands to fabric wristbands and necklaces. Many of our engravable medical ID bracelets are also available in a variety of sizes from 5 inches (12.7cm) to suit even young children. Older children can shop our entire range as we offer bracelets and wristbands in a choice of sizes. Style conscious teens will be spoilt for choice with cool leather braidstrendy beaded bracelets and brightly coloured silicone bands. You can even future proof against a growing spurt by choosing an adjustable wristband or bracelet that will grow with them or a traditional dog tag necklace.

CCHS Medicine bags and ID Cards

If you regularly carry medication, our medicine bags and carry cases are perfect for keeping your medication safe. They're also great for traveling and when you go on holiday. As well as your CCHS alert jewellery, it's also a good idea to have a medical ID card for your wallet or phone. This allows you to carry more detailed information with you, such as your address and NH number. If you purchase one of our ID cards alongside a necklace or bracelet, we normally advise having 'see medical card&' engraved on your chosen piece of jewellery.
