Autism Medical ID
Do You Need A Bracelet or Medical ID For Autism?
Autism, Asperger’s syndrome and other autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) are lifelong, developmental disabilities which affect people in different ways and to varying degrees. A medical id can help first responders, medical staff and other emergency services understand why the wearer might find communication a challenge and help to provide context for the wearer’s behaviour.
An autism medical ID in the form of a medical alert bracelet, necklace, or wristband also provides a vital link to the wearer’s family or carer with the inclusion of “in case of emergency” contact details.
In our autism range you'll find handy medicine bags, ID cards, wristbands, necklaces and bracelets which we can personalise with your details. All prices include free engraving and free UK mainland delivery.
What Should You Put on an Autism Medical ID?
It is always best to consult with your doctor or specialist to decide what to engrave on your autism medical ID. In the event that this is not possible, we have taken advice from the lovely doctors at Concierge Medical (the multi award-winning private GP service for the Cotswolds and surrounding areas) and recommend the following:
- As a minimum, you should put the following on your autism medical ID:
- Wearer’s name.
- Primary ICE (in case of emergency) name and number.
- Your autism diagnosis.
- Any medications you are on to help manage your autism.
- You may also want to include the following:
- Any other severe medical conditions (including allergies).
- Any other medications you may be on.
- “See medical card” (if you choose to carry a medical ID card in your phone case or wallet).
If you choose a medical id bracelet that can be engraved on both the front and the back, we recommend engraving the autism diagnosis, name and ICE on the front and any additional medical information on the back. Including the wearer’s and ICE contact names will allow first responders to provide an additional level of reassurance to the wearer.
- General advice on engraving:
- information should relate to conditions not otherwise discoverable by examination of an unconscious or incapacitated patient.
- Important medications should be listed.
- Information should be relevant to life-saving or emergency treatment.
- Avoid using general terms, e.g. “Allergies: bee stings, nuts” is much more useful than just “Allergies”.
Autism Wristbands
In case of an emergency, it's important that those with severe autism attack wear, or keep with them at all times, some form of medical identification in case of an emergency.
A wristband can be a handy way of doing this as they’re comfortable and convenient to wear throughout the day and evening, indoors and out.
We have many different colours you can choose from and we also offer smaller wristbands for children. Our Velcro and Silicone ranges are great if you like to stay active.
Autism Bracelets
Our colourful medical ID bracelets with clasp are one of our most popular products and all of the engravings are on the front of these bracelets.
As well as a vast range of bracelets, we also have watch style SOS Talismans available that allow the wearer to write their details onto an information strip and store it inside the SOS capsule, great for individuals whose details or medications might change frequently.
Autism Necklaces
As well as a bracelet or wristband, many autism sufferers wear a necklace as an alternative or additional way of carrying vital medical information. Our range of engravable dog tags are a great option if you require multiple lines of personalisation as they can fit a minimum of 5 lines of engraving.
SOS Talisman and Infomedic necklaces are also great for discreetly keeping your medical details safe inside a unique pendant with a waterproof seal.
Autism Bracelets For Kids
According to Autism Parenting Magazine, parents are increasingly opting to use medical ID bracelets to help their children in the event of social difficulties, as well as raise awareness and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder.
It’s not always easy to persuade little ones to wear medical ids so we have a great range of autism medical ids for kids: from colourful silicone bands to fabric wristbands and necklaces. Many of our engravable medical id bracelets are available in a variety of sizes from 5 inches (12.7cm) to suit even young children. We also stock the Allermates autism range.
Medicine bags and ID Cards
If you carry medication, our medical bags are perfect for keeping your medication safe. They're also great for travelling and when you go on holiday.
As well as your diabetes alert jewellery, it's also a good idea to have a medical ID card for your wallet or phone. This allows you to carry more detailed information with you, such as your address and NHS number. If you purchase one of our ID cards alongside a necklace or bracelet, we normally advise having 'see medical card' engraved on your chosen piece of jewellery.
