How to Measure Your Wrist for a Medical ID Bracelet

12th Aug 2024

Choosing the right medical ID bracelet is crucial, not just for comfort but also to make sure it stays in place and is easily readable during emergencies. Since you'll be wearing your medical ID bracelet a lot, it's important that it feels comfortable enough to encourage consistent use. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get the correct measurement.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Before you start, you’ll need a flexible measuring tape or a strip of paper or piece of string, and a pen or pencil. If you’re using a strip of paper or string, you’ll also need a ruler to determine the measurement.

Step 2: Measure Your Wrist

  1. Wrap the Measuring Tape: Place the measuring tape around your wrist just below the wrist bone, where you would normally wear a watch. The tape should be snug but not tight - just enough to stay in place without pinching.
  2. Using a Strip of Paper or Piece of String: If you don’t have a measuring tape, wrap a strip of paper or piece of string around your wrist in the same spot. Mark where the paper or string overlaps, then lay it flat and measure the length with a ruler.
  3. Note the Measurement: Once you’ve measured the marked tape, paper or string, note the measurement in inches or centimetres. This is your wrist size.

Step 3: Choosing Your Medical ID Bracelet Wrist Size

For bracelets with chains. Add 20mm to 30mm (3/4" to 1.1/4") to your measured size depending how slack you like your bracelet to be. Chained bracelets are normally worn quite loose.

For flat/rigid style bracelets. Add 10mm to 20mm (½" to ¾") to your measured size depending how tight you like your bracelets to be.

This is the size that you should use for ordering. If you find that you are between sizes, you should take the larger size.

Step 4: Double Check Before You Buy

Remember that different bracelet designs might have slightly different fits, so make sure you’re selecting a size that aligns with the bracelet style you prefer.

Final Tips

Check for Adjustability: Some bracelets come with adjustable links or straps. If you’re unsure of your exact size, these can offer some flexibility.

Account for Swelling: If your wrists tend to swell, especially in hot weather or due to medical conditions, consider opting for a slightly looser fit.

We always include any links we remove from your bracelet so you can always make it larger again if it is too tight - we would recommend you take it to a local jeweller to see if they can put a link back in otherwise you can always return the bracelet to us for resizing.

If you do need to return a bracelet for resizing, please phone or email us first to arrange payment - we charge £8.50 (UK Only) for the resizing and re-posting back to you. Please note, you will have to pay the postal charge to return the bracelet to us. We recommend you send it "Recorded Signed For" to help ensure the safe delivery.
